The collimation system of the Large Hadron Collider must be upgraded to handle the planned increase in beam currents. This will require novel collimation techniques, and the effect of these on the beams must be simulated to high precision by validated models.
You will be involved in the development and application of the MERLIN beam transport simulation package for this purpose. You will maintain and support it for other members of the project, adding new features to include novel collimation systems, and applying it to various proposed upgrade scenarios, particularly in matters related to the adaptive collimation system being developed by Huddersfield.
