The School of Applied Sciences at the University of Huddersfield is seeking to appoint a PDRA in Heterocyclic Materials Chemistry. The main focus of the research programme will be the synthesis, purification and characterization of heterocyclic compounds which have been designed to exhibit useful electrochromic properties. In addition such novel electrochromic heterocycles may be designed so as to possess additional chromic phenomena such as either photochromism, luminescence or liquid crystallinity. It is anticipated that, after protection of intellectual property, selected molecules may be synthesised on the multi-gram scale as part of the sponsor's commercialisation programme. You will be expected to help run a team of postgraduate students and undertake some demonstrating/teaching.
You will hold a First or Upper second class honours degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Heterocyclic Chemistry or Advanced Synthetic Organic Materials Chemistry, or be near to completion. You will also have experience in the multi-step synthesis of organic compounds/heterocycles and be adept at their purification and characterization.
The School is committed to Athena SWAN principles and the promotion of equality and diversity and is proud to hold a Bronze Athena SWAN award.
The post holder will report to Professor Mark Heron and Dr Chris Gabbutt.
