The Institute of Railway Research (IRR) is looking for professional engineers with an eye to the future. Whether it is helping to solve the engineering challenges of today's railway or conducting research to shape the future of the industry, you will enjoy a variety of technical challenges.
The IRR provides a range of specialist railway research and development across a wide range of engineering and safety-risk based areas. We work with industrial and academic research partners across Europe on a variety of projects which will influence the future development of rail transport.
Our research programme requires high calibre engineers with a wide range of skills. However we are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Mathematical modelling and simulation of mechanical / dynamic systems
- Vehicle-track interaction
- Wheel-rail interface engineering
- Mechanical design and finite elements methods
Whilst experience in the railway industry is desirable, your experience may have been gained in a range of related areas including automotive and aerospace engineering.
To take advantage of this opportunity you will need to have a strong academic track record together with excellent technical skills and an enthusiasm for new challenges.

This is an open-ended appointment and is dependent upon the availability of specific funding in this School. In the event of there being no further funding available to support this post you will receive appropriate notification of the termination of your employment in accordance with contractual provisions.
If you are currently registered as a full-time student at the University please note that you may only apply for part-time jobs of 15 hours or less per week.
