Permanent, full time
The University of Huddersfield seeks to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated senior lecturer to strengthen teaching and research in the area of criminology and policing from 1 September 2019.
We welcome applications from strong candidates particularly in areas of cybercrime and digital policing. We welcome applications from candidates who have recent or current work experience in the field of policing and investigation as well as the potential to further a track record of research in their field. You should have a Ph.D. in a relevant subject area. You should also be able to demonstrate your ability to engage and inspire students through your teaching and/or research. Although we welcome applications from candidates who specialise in any research methodology, we particularly welcome those who specialise in, or can teach to a high level, quantitative data analysis.
Currently the Division of Criminology, Politics and Sociology has over twenty full-time staff and is seeking to develop the subject area in two avenues: firstly through growing postgraduate taught provision within criminology and policing, as well as its research-informed postgraduate provision at both masters and Ph.D. levels; secondly through the provision of accredited professional policing entry degrees in collaboration with relevant police regions and related organisations. The subject area and Division as a whole has consistently performed very highly in the NSS and we are one of the top Universities in the North of England for teaching and learning, having been awarded the Times Higher Education University of the Year in 2013 and gold in the first Teaching Excellence Framework.
You would complement the current criminology and policing subject team and contribute to the development and delivery of the newly validated MSc in Criminology and Evidence-Based Policing, as well as allied courses such as the MSc in Criminology and International Security and BSc (Hons) Policing and Investigation degree programmes as well as other relevant provision. You will engage with the subject team to build on recent successes, for example in the REF 2014, through building your own research profile and active membership of the inter-disciplinary research centres such as the Applied Criminology and Policing Centre and Secure Societies Institute, in preparation for submission in the REF2021 submission.
If you are currently registered as a full-time student at the University please note that you may only apply for part-time jobs of 15 hours or less per week.
