The Department of Media, Journalism and Film at the University of Huddersfield seeks to appoint scholars with exceptional potential and a proven record of international excellence in research and teaching. You will demonstrate a desire to contribute to the Department’s ambitious programme of expansion and its strategic goals of international excellence and leadership in the study of digital media and culture.
We invite applications from scholars whose work explores the interplay of media technologies, platforms and content, and associated practices in their production, use and reception. We welcome, in particular, applicants with a focus on one or more of the following areas:
- Production Studies
- Media Industries
- Political Communication
- Digital Platforms and Identity
- Ethnicity and Race in Communication
- Media Sport
- Audience and Fan Studies
- Quantitative Research Methods
The Department is committed to internationalisation and encourages applications from candidates able to examine such areas in their local and global contexts and a proven record of international collaboration.
The Department is also home to the University’s newly formed Centre for Participatory Culture www.hud.ac.uk/cpc. The Centre explores practices, motivations and manifestations of participation and the social, cultural, political, technological and economic premises and consequences of media convergence and participatory engagements. You will benefit from the Centre’s collaborative research culture and will be expected to significantly advance the work of the Centre conceptually, methodologically and empirically. The School of Music, Humanities and Media is a research-intensive faculty, reflected in recent successes including our strong REF2014 performance, significant income generation and the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for its work in contemporary music. You will further the School’s position as a centre of excellence for research in the humanities and creative industries by undertaking internationally excellent research and impact work, and through the generation of research and enterprise income.

Our Department is home to an exciting and newly revised portfolio of undergraduate programmes including undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in digital communication, media, television and film production, and journalism. as well as our doctoral programmes in media and communication. You will contribute to the delivery, management and development of these programmes and be able to evidence highest standards of teaching and capacity to engage and inspire diverse student cohorts.
